This was a commission that I took over at the Star Wars Artist Guild (their link is on the right). The request was to take a Star Wars X-Wing fighter and a Hapan Miy’til fighter and merge them together to make a whole new fighter. Below is the progression of the work using 3ds Max.
So I do some side work with the folks over at the Star Wars Artist Guild (Lal-Khan is my name over there) doing free artwork for people that is Star Wars related. Usually these are gamers that are looking for original artwork for their favorite characters. I find it satisfying to help this people in need and also use it as a way to drive myself to practice more on my artwork. In this case, a request came in for a starship called a Starrunner-class. This ship is very rare and mentioned in only one Extended Universe place. In addition, there is only one picture of this ship out there of any decent quality. I decided to pick up the request and give it a try.
So for something new to this blog is my self teaching of 3ds Max. My first project is designing a Rapier Mk I starfighter from the Wing Commander series. I won’t go into boring details on how it was designed. Suffice to say this was about 6 hours of work total over the course of 5 days. Each pic shows the progress after one day.
